What does kids development stand for?
April 3, 2019
Since biologists have and continue to research about the beginning of existence on Earth, or at least what they know about, the increasingly growing knowledge of living things has never stopped especially that of homo sapiens.
As all life is constantly moving, changing, adjusting, adapting… those factors are a part of evolution and ipso facto of development.
What does development stand for?
According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, development is the act, process or result of developing. Development is seen in the evolution of the human race since the earliest known humans, the “Homo habilis” or “handy man”, who lived from about 2.4 million to 1.4 million years ago, the “Upright man” who existed from 1.89 million to 110 000 years ago, as well as the Neanderthals and the Deniosovans (less than 500 000 years ago) and their relation with the modern humans confirmed by DNA tests.
3 marked revolutions were seen in the homo sapiens’ (our ancestors) evolution:
1- Cognitive Revolution: 70,000 ago
2- Agricultural Revolution: 11,000 years ago
3- Scientific Revolution: 500 years ago
What does this evolution and those 3 revolutions have with the actual development of human beings and more precisely in the age bracket of 0 and 18 years old?
If those 70,000 years ago are minimized into the first 18 years of the development of the human being, we categorize them as babies, toddlers, kids and teenagers. To be more specific:
1- The age between 0 to 6 years is where the baby and toddler is searching for awareness and learning about what is happening in the world around them (cognitive revolution).
2- The age between 7 and 12 years old is where the kid is searching to channel what he or she knows to build a strong base for the next level (agricultural revolution).
3- The age between 13 and 18 years old is where the teenager is going towards professionalism: analyzing, find solution, planning … (scientific revolution).
Recently, this natural change (between 0 and 18 years) is facing new challenges and is getting tougher than previous times as the extension of our life span is becoming more than 100 years (and soon, maybe more than 120 years) where the physical, intellectual, and psychological challenges are seeking solutions.
By being aware, having knowledge, and using the tools we have (from our experiences), we can enjoy a better and healthier life with a touch of beauty.
