Why do we use music and rhythm in football and swimming training for children?
April 15, 2021
Swimming is a coordinated rhythmic movement of the body; In football, the rhythm allows the player to be in tune with the ball and the movement of the game around the player.
This “rhythm”, accompanied with music, is included in the philosophy and program we work on starting from an early age.
How do children enhance their development by training with rhythm and music?
By using music to engage and interact. We enjoy the benefits of music from the moment we are born. For example, put music for a group of children giving each one a football, and ask them to dribble following the tune.
By building on their natural instincts alongside music and rhythmic training. For example, while swimming (training), ask the swimmer to follow a rhythm of music; to accelerate or decelerate, to relax or tense up the muscles.
By playing a variety of appropriate tunes to explore different sounds during training. This leads to good stimulation of the nervous system and boosts the motor development skills. For example, grid cells triggering exercises.
By repetition which is key in teaching children. It is easier to repeat “x” times the movement with a song or a rhythm to encourage memorization.
How does music help?
Music triggers many aspects of children development and skills; it helps the body and mind work together.
Music helps children improve motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression.
Music increases activation in cognitive control areas of the brain…
Music brings joy, and if appropriate, reduces aggressiveness.
Is it difficult or expensive to build, buy or rent a sonor system, a radio, etc.? No…
Don’t underestimate the power of those plastic containers with small stones or dried beans to create shakers!
Rhythm is made by counting, speaking… or simply the coaches whistle!
